Alliance Defense Fund is ready to defend pro-life measures approved in Utah.
One of the laws prohibits abortions after the baby becomes viable, except when the physical health of the mother is in danger or to save the mother's life. The second measure would require that full information on abortion be given to a woman seeking one, including the fact that the unborn child will feel pain after 20 weeks gestation. Steven Aden is with the Alliance Defense Fund (ADF).
"Utah's laws are just common-sense measures to protect innocent children, who are already old enough to live outside the womb, and their mothers, in line with the rulings from the Supreme Court," he explains.
ADF is offering to stand by Utah's side in the event of lawsuits. "We stand ready to litigate these laws as far as we need to go to establish that states have the right and the responsibility to pass reasonable, common-sense restrictions on abortion that protect women's health and protect human life," Aden adds.
The attorney expects Planned Parenthood and similar organizations will file suit. Although a third law passed by lawmakers provides funds for defending the measures, ADF is offering its assistance at no cost.
