A Little Humor and A Reality Check on Contraception

Dr. Ray Guarendi tells a joke about Jesus and Moses golfing. He then makes a point about the birth control pill and life beginning at conception.

Action Alert: Abortion in Healthcare Bill Returns!

The Congressional Quarterly in Washington, D.C. is now reporting that the final health care proposal is expected to be released by the White House “as early as Feb 21″ — this weekend!

Abortion proponents are aggressively assembling a coalition to ram through a health care bill that is fully expected to mandate abortion coverage and government funding of abortion.

With a final version expected out as early as Sunday, it’s clear that abortion advocates know they’re on the verge of having the votes they need to force this bill through in a way that is filibuster-proof:

”The most likely way forward is for the House to clear the Senate’s health care bill (HR 3590) and for the Senate to pass a package of changes to it, using the filibuster-proof budget reconciliation process. That set of changes would incorporate the deals struck with the House, which would then send the new package to the White House. Obama would first sign the original Senate bill, then the ‘corrections’ package. The last measure signed into law would be the one that dictates the final shape of the overhaul.”

You see, the House passed the Stupak language that would save lives and protect taxpayers from funding abortion — but it was completely stripped from the Senate version.

With intense pressure mounting for the House to just roll over and pass the Senate version, millions of lives are at stake!

President Obama has refused to address the issue of abortion — and every indication is that he will keep abortion funding as a centerpiece of his proposal.

And with the immense amount of pressure that House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid have been applying to pro-life members of their party, we must act NOW!

We’ve been working around the clock to put together a coalition of like-minded groups, leaders, and activists to press for Stupak language — that protects innocent human life in the final bill.

Now we need YOU to tell that to Congress!

Please contact your members of Congress to tell them:

“Do not support any health care reform bill that does not include the Stupak language to block government funding of abortion!”

Here’s how to reach them:

We’re in the final stretch, and this is when your voice counts the most. Let’s keep up the pressure and STOP the Abortion Mandate in Health Care!

For Life,

Stop the Abortion Mandate Coalition

Good News! Healing Is Available in Christ to Post-Abortive Men and Women

From 40 Days for Life Day 2 Reflection

By Kevin Burke, Executive Director, Rachel's Vineyard Ministries

For those wounded by their participation in abortion, the door to healing often feels like crossing an abyss of great fear: fear of judgment, fear of being torn apart by the pain, by self hatred and rage at those who hurt and abandoned you, and manipulated you in your time of temptation.

For men in particular, entering the unknown waters of emotional vulnerability, so necessary to healing calls for a different kind of courage that feels deceptively like weakness.

The door to healing is humility.

It is born in the inability to no longer control the pain, to live with the consequences of that tragic decision to reject life. The hearts cries out, “I have committed a grave offense against my Creator and I am consumed by regret, grief and sorrow!”

During these forty days let us pray for all who have participated in abortion and with love call them to healing and reconciliation. With healing these women and men can become as John Paul II proclaimed in the Gospel of Life, “the most eloquent defenders of everyone’s right to life.”

Jesus proclaimed, “I am the Vine, you are the branches” (John 15:5). To bear the greatest fruit, the branches must be pruned. Each level of pruning of the vine requires a deeper level of humility so that we can abandon ourselves to His will. Read more.

Big Victories, Babies Saved as 40 Days for Life Kicks Off Campaign

Commentary by David Bereit, National Coordinator, 40 Days for Life

February 17, 2010 ( - Would you believe that 40 Days for Life is just starting, and we're already hearing about big victories in the days leading up to the campaign?

In Rockford, Illinois, the city council was asked to establish a bubble zone outside the local abortion center -- a law that could severely restrict pro-life activity there. The alderman who sponsored the proposal said it was needed immediately -- because 40 Days for Life was coming!

The majority of the council thought otherwise, and tabled the proposal for 60 days -- which means the 40 Days for Life campaign will not face unreasonable restrictions!

In Riverside, California, the 40 Days for Life kickoff rally took the form of a Jericho march -- 250 people marched around the Planned Parenthood facility, praying for an end to abortion.

The excellent turnout is only part of the good news. "Before we even began, a baby was saved!" said Pam, one of the local coordinators in Riverside. Two of the participants met a mother of four who was arriving for an abortion. "They prayed with her and the Holy Spirit came upon her and there were many tears," said Pam.

"She made a decision for life!"

Dutch may create "suicide professionals" for seniors

BioEdge | February 15, 2010

“Wanted: nurse or spiritual caretaker in possession of a Completed Life Certificate to assist suicides.” If a group of elderly grandees in the Netherlands calling itself “Out of Free Will” succeeds with its plan for decriminalizing assisted suicide, job advertisements like this will be appearing in the newspapers.

They have already begun collecting signatures to lobby for a change in legislation.

In an interview in the NRC Handelsblad, three of them explain why the Netherlands needs to grant anyone sane over the age of 70 the right to die with a professionally-trained expert’s assistance. Under their plan the expert would determine whether they are of sound mind and not depressed. A doctor would then confirm this assessment. After the death, the expert would write up a report for the local euthanasia committee. Only Dutch citizens would be eligible.

The specialist suicide assistants will need to complete a “Completed Life” training program and to join a professional association which will maintain standards of professional, transparent and safe conduct.

Dick Swaab, the head of the Amsterdam-based Netherlands Institute for Neuroscience, and a leader of the group, explained that “Throughout the animal kingdom, individuals are simply replaced, rather than patched up endlessly.” Human beings are much the same and they should move on when it is time to go." Feds admit they wronged pro-lifers

Pro-life Wisconsin is raising serious questions about information gathered by the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) since information was inappropriately shared with the Middleton (Wisconsin) Police Department.

Peggy Hamill (Pro Life Wisconsin)Peggy Hamill, director of Pro-Life Wisconsin, tells OneNewsNow the federal agency has acknowledged the "threat assessment."

"The Homeland Security Civil Rights Department concluded that the investigation had been an improper use of department resources and also inappropriately directed against activities protected by the First Amendment," she reports. Full story.

Stalemate on fetal homicide issue in Vermont

Charlie Butts - OneNewsNow - 2/13/2010

VermontVermont lawmakers are making little movement on fetal homicide laws.

The legislation was proposed in the aftermath of a car wreck in which Patricia Blair's minivan was struck head-on by a car driven by a 22-year-old woman who was under the influence of prescription drugs. Blair was pregnant and lost the twins she was carrying, but because there is no Vermont law to prosecute someone for killing an unborn baby, the woman faced lesser charges. (See earlier article)

Mary Hahn Beerworth (Vermont Right to Life Committee)Mary Hahn Beerworth, executive director of Vermont Right to Life, reports the problem in the legislature revolves around one senator. "That senator has refused now to let Patricia Blair, the mom of the twins, have so much as five minutes before his committee -- and he has decided he's not going to take up the issue after all," Beerworth explains. Arizona pro-life laws currently in limbo

Charlie Butts - OneNewsNow - 2/13/2010 4:15:00 AM

ArizonaArguments have been held in state and federal courts over two pro-life laws in Arizona that are designed to protect the health and safety of women.

Planned Parenthood filed suit blocking implementation of the laws until the courts rule. One law deals with informed consent; the other with licensure to perform abortions. Full story.

White House Quietly Prepping for Supreme Court Vacancy

Washington, DC ( -- More reports are confirming the Obama administration is preparing for a potential Supreme Court vacancy in the next few months. Reports surfaced weeks ago that pro-abortion Justice John Paul Stevens was considering retiring and today, CNN said more recent reports indicate that as well.

CNN indicates the White house has begun "quiet preparations" for a high court vacant but cautions that top Obama officials have not named any names of potential Supreme Court retirements.

The latest session of the Supreme Court ends in June and the most likely scenario is that one of the justices would announce a retirement this Spring or Summer so a newly-confirmed replacement can join the court when its next term begins in October.

The machinations on the Supreme Court are of monumental importance to the pro-life community because of the wide-ranging effect the court has to abortion and pro-life issues.

The high court paved the way for 52 million abortions with the Roe v. Wade and Doe v. Bolton decisions that still stand and still, despite modifications, allow virtually unlimited abortions. Full story.
