The Reuters News Agency reported on January 3 that the Federal Drug Administration had granted the Advanced Cell Technology (ACT) firm the right to try out using embryonic stem cells for treating macular degeneration, a common cause of blindness. ACT’s chief scientific officer, Dr. Robert Lanza, said that ACT would immediately recruit patients with age related macular degeneration and would use stem cells procured by destroying embryonic human beings in an effort to help these patients retain or recover their vision.Article: Culture of Life
This essay will first explain what macular degeneration is and note its different forms. It will then focus on the morality of using human embryonic stem cells in efforts to cure persons suffering from maladies, and then report and reflect on relevant scientific evaluations of the therapeutic value efficacy of embryonic stem cell research.

Last night 21,613 people jammed onto the "Unplanned"
webcast to hear former Planned Parenthood clinic
director Abby Johnson reveal what she experienced
inside the abortion business -- and why she resigned
her job and joined the pro-life movement.
The positive comments are still pouring in!
We know some people had a hard time getting on due to
the high demand, so we rushed to get the recording of
the event online for you. You can listen now at:
The webcast served as a sneak preview for TODAY'S
release of Abby's tell-all book, "Unplanned," which
is being published in an historic arrangement between
Tyndale House, Focus on the Family, and Ignatius
Press, and endorsed by dozens of prominent leaders
and respected organizations.
You can download and read Chapter 1 of "Unplanned,"
along with many of the endorsements, for FREE (as a
PDF document) at:
You won't be the same after reading that chapter!
During the webcast we announced that Ignatius Press
has published a special edition of "Unplanned" with
exclusive bonus content, including:
* Foreword by Fr. Frank Pavone, national director
of Priests for Life
* Introduction by David Bereit, our 40 Days for Life
national director, on the power that prayer played
in Abby's conversion (you will LOVE this!)
* Publisher's Note from Fr. Joseph Fessio, student
and friend of Pope Benedict XVI, and founder of
Ignatius Press, on the monumental impact that he
expects to see due to Abby's book
To make things even better for the webcast, Ignatius
Press slashed prices on the "Unplanned" special
edition by 35% -- their very best pricing!
Unfortunately, the flood of orders -- combined with
what appears to be a vicious, orchestrated "denial of
service" attack by those who don't want you reading
Abby's book -- caused the Ignatius web server to
crash during our webcast, and many people could not
get their copies of "Unplanned."
But are we going to let abortion advocates win the
Instead, let's use this opportunity to send Planned
Parenthood and the abortion industry a message.
DAY ONE is the most important day of sales for a new
book. Let's rally together TODAY to set sales records
and send "Unplanned" up the bestseller charts on the
first day it is available.
That will send shock waves through the abortion
business, and will get the attention of the secular
media -- helping to spread this message far and wide!
Now, let me be totally transparent ... 40 Days for
Life is not being compensated a single nickel for
promoting this book. We just believe in it 100% and
want to share it with everyone we know!
With that said, Ignatius Press worked late into the
night fortifying their web servers -- and now they're
ready! Go grab copies of "Unplanned" for yourself,
friends, family members, people at church, and other
But make sure to do it TODAY, if at all possible, so
it counts toward DAY ONE totals.
Let's make this a tipping point moment in our efforts
to end abortion!
40 Days for Life
A lot of art and how it is interpreted is left up to the observer and that is especially true with song. Whether they mean or not some songs send a strong pro-life message. This first song is by Marc Cohn, “The Things We’ve Handed Down.” It is a song of an expectant father to his unborn child and the expectations that are connected with the joyous occasion. I have no idea what Mr. Cohn’s political stance on abortion is, and don’t really care. Click here to watch videos.
As the new Congress begins, pro-life champions on Capitol Hill are already moving to protect families in unprecedented ways. In keeping with the backlash against President Obama's health care law, Republican Congressman Joe Pitts (R-Penn.) has joined with Democrat Dan Lipinski (D-Ill.) to draft legislation to remove any taxpayer funding of abortion within the law. This legislation is the "Protect Life Act."
However, getting abortion out of any and all government-sponsored health care is only the beginning. That is why Representative Chris Smith (R-N.J.), also working with Rep. Lipinski, is reintroducing the "No Taxpayer Funding for Abortion Act" which seeks to get taxpayers completely out of the abortion business and why Rep. Mike Pence (R-Ind.) reintroduced the "Title X Abortion Provider Prohibition Act."
From 2002-2008, Planned Parenthood received $657,100,000 from federal taxpayers alone. Probably hoping to avoid further scrutiny during tough economic times, Planned Parenthood never released their 2008-2009 annual report until just before Christmas -- months later than usual. What were they trying to hide? For one, the abortion giant received $363,200,000 in government grants and contracts during that time period, a $13,600,000 increase from the prior year. At the same time they were making a killing off of taxpayers, they were busy killing future ones by performing an unprecedented 324,800 abortions.
Of course, Planned Parenthood is not the only abortion company that receives government funds, but they are certainly the largest and growing.
Given that we have the most pro-life Congress in recent history, now is the time to act on stopping government subsidies to kill innocent life
It is long past time for taxpayers to get out of the abortion business.
Thank you for taking action today and God bless you.
