From the USCCB - White House Misrepresents Its Own Contraceptive Mandate

The Obama administration, to justify its widely criticized mandate for contraception and sterilization coverage in private health plans, has posted a set of false and misleading claims on the White House blog (“Health Reform, Preventive Services, and Religious Institutions,” February 1).In what follows, each White House claim is quoted with a response.

Honolulu's Bishop Larry Silva Addresses the HHS Recent Mandate: Letter to the faithful

Reprinted with permission of His Excellency Bishop Larry Silva, Diocese of Honolulu

LETTER TO THE FAITHFUL

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ:

I write to you concerning an alarming and serious matter that negatively impacts the Church in the United States directly, and that strikes at the fundamental right to religious liberty for all citizens of any faith. The federal government, which claims to be “of, by, and for the people,” has just dealt a heavy blow to almost a quarter of those people — the Catholic population — and to the millions more who are served by the Catholic faithful.

The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services announced last week that almost all employers, including Catholic employers, will be forced to offer their employees’ health coverage that includes sterilization, abortion-inducing drugs, and contraception. Almost all health insurers will be forced to include those “services” in the health policies they write. And almost all individuals will be forced to buy that coverage as a part of their policies.

In so ruling, the Administration has cast aside the First Amendment to the Constitution of the United States, denying to Catholics our nation’s first and most fundamental freedom, that of religious liberty. And as a result, unless the rule is overturned, we Catholics will be compelled either to violate our consciences, or to drop health coverage for our employees (and suffer the penalties for doing so). The Administration’s sole concession was to give our institutions one year to comply.

People of faith cannot be made second class citizens. We are already joined by our brothers and sisters of all faiths and many others of good will in this important effort to regain our religious freedom. In generations past, the Church has always been able to count on the faithful to stand up and protect her sacred rights and duties. I hope and trust she can count on this generation of Catholics to do the same. Our children and grandchildren deserve nothing less.

And therefore, I would ask of you two things. First, as a community of faith we must commit ourselves to prayer and fasting that wisdom and justice may prevail, and religious liberty may be restored. Without God, we can do nothing; with God, nothing is impossible. Second, I would also recommend visiting www.usccb.org/conscience, to learn more about this severe assault on religious liberty, and how to contact Congress in support of legislation that would reverse the Administration’s decision.

Sincerely yours in Christ,

Most Reverend Larry Silva

Urgent Action Alert: Stop New Abortion Clinic on Kaua'i!

Our friends on the beautiful Garden Island of Kauai are asking for your immediate help. Planned Parenthood Hawaii has returned to the Garden Isle to peddle its services and now plans to offer abortion "services" at a clinic located inside the Mahelona Memorial Hospital in Kapa'a. Funding for the clinic would be provided by the University of Hawaii.

The Board of Directors for Hawaii Health Systems Corporation, which operates the hospital, has scheduled a meeting on Tuesday, February 21 at 6:00pm to discuss the clinic.

Previously, Planned Parenthood of Hawaii performed abortions in Kapa'a, (which was one of 287 surgical PPH clinics in the country) but in 2009 had to cease operations. Over the past few years, Kaua'i has remained free of the plague of surgical abortion, but that could quickly change.

We are calling on Hawaii's human life advocates to act immediately by voicing your strong opposition to this imminent threat to unborn children, their mothers, and all of Kaua'i. Here's how you can help:
  1. Pray – that community leaders and hospital administrators would not permit abortions in any medical facility on Kauai.
  2. Submit testimony – Email your testimony to us at office{at}alohalifeadvocates{dot}org asking that abortions be banned from Mahelona Memorial Hospital and all other healthcare facilities on Kaua'i. Click here for a link to fast facts about abortion in Hawaii.
  3. Sign the Kauai Abortion Clinic Petition and return to us by February 19
  4. Share this information with your pro-life friends, family, and colleagues, especially those on Kaua'i who would be willing to attend the meeting on February 21
  5. Support Aloha Life Advocates with an immediate gift as we work to prevent surgical abortion from returning to Kaua'i
Thank you for your unwavering support as we stand strong with our neighbors in our defense to protect the most vulnerable members of our human 'ohana. Your quick action will save lives and create a culture in Hawaii Nei that respects the dignity and worth of all people, both born and unborn!

A.L.L.: "FAUX OUTRAGE AT KOMEN IS NOT ABOUT WOMEN'S HEALTH"

Today, Susan G. Komen for the Cure put out a statement that some interpret as a reversal of an earlier statement that Planned Parenthood Federation of America would not qualify for further funding under new Komen grant guidelines. Those new guidelines barred funding organizations that are under investigation and also limited new grants to grantees that provide funded services directly to the patient. PPFA does not meet either of those requirements.

Paul E. Rondeau, executive director of American Life League, made the following statement:
"Many in the pro-life movement are disappointed by this turn of events, although it remains unclear how the new Komen statement may play out. What is crystal clear is that Planned Parenthood has become a dangerously powerful entity that can demand payment from a donor even for services it does not really provide.

After Cecile Richards, president of Planned Parenthood, was caught lying to the national media about her organization providing mammograms, we know it is not about the truth. Planned Parenthood does not actually provide diagnostic cancer screenings or mammograms. Future Komen funding was simply being diverted to direct providers.

So it is a certainty that the faux outrage ginned up by Planned Parenthood operatives has nothing to do with women's health and, least of all, women's breast health.

This is about sex industry money and abortion power, with 22 of Planned Parenthood̢۪s pocket senators standing by as cheerleaders.

Politicians and corporations should heed these events. Getting into bed with Planned Parenthood is like joining the Mafia: They will tell you when you are done, you don't tell them."

AMERICAN LIFE LEAGUE'S 2011 MOLOCH AWARDS

Moloch was a false god that Israel would worship during its periods of apostasy. Followers that worshipped this counterfeit deity would sacrifice their children to it by heating up this idol with fire until it was glowing hot and then place their newborn babies into the arms of the idol.

What better way to honor the modern day version of misguided leaders that sacrifice our children and culture to political correctness and false beliefs than with awards named for the phony philosophy of Moloch.

Why I rejected Plan B after my disabled daughter was raped

A lot of blog posts are about cultural or news events. A great many are about family life, education, and home improvement or craft projects. Some are about saving money. Many are about abstract theological points, or one’s understanding of Scripture.

This one is not about any of these. This is about the intensely personal moment that being pro-life, and making an honest-to-God pro-life decision, reached and out grabbed me by the heart and clutched hard.
